Project Reflection

I think that for the category, Knowledge Tool Box: English/ U.S. History, I would give myself meets expectations, because I researched about my two resilient individuals and I added some information about them into my music piece. I have added quotes that they have said into my piece and also wrote in my lyrics what they went through. I have also connected them by saying that they both were in the war zone, risking their lives to help their people or their "side" (north or south.) I did not focus on slavery besides the fact that Robert E. Lee was a general in the Civil War and was fighting for the Confederates. Actually, this has really nothing to do with slavery or issues about the Civil War, but how they sort of came to the war and came back from the war zones okay. I know how to compile and record an album, but I do not know how to market it off, though I have some idea. I saw a HTH student selling albums they made. But I'm not sure.

In the next category, I will give myself also a meets expectations, because I did help organize the tablecloths, tables, and artwork for the resilience project, but I don't really think my presentation went all so great. I messed up when I was presenting, and I should have went more in depth. I wanted it to be a little longer, however, I did not want it to go even more wrong. I did
type up my lyrics and reflected it, saying why my two people were resilient, who were they, and why they are connected, but I did not add too much about the history references.

The last category will get also a meets expectations, because I have edited it many times, but I don't think that it shows evidence and explicit searching. So altogether it's meets expectations.

100 word explanation

Lyrics

Two men so far away,
Yet so close.
A man from the past,
A man of today.

Two men who fight,
For their people,
For their lives,
For their…

(Chorus)
What is life?
What is peace?
What is happiness?
These things that the men are fighting for.
What is hate?
What is anger?
What is war?
These things that the world just don’t need…

These men have risked their lives,
Going to the war zone,
And coming back to lead a normal life.

Who have seen things unimaginable,
And coming back,
To home,
And pretend nothing has happened…

(Chorus)

The Civil War…
The war in
Iraq
The only reason,
These wars are fought…

(Spoken)

So far from engaging in a war to perpetuate slavery, I am rejoiced that Slavery is abolished. I believe it will be greatly for the interest of the South. So fully am I satisfied of this that I would have cheerfully lost all that I have lost by the war, and have suffered all that I have suffered to have this object attained.

“Going to someplace and coming back to lead a normal life, going through a lot of changes from a soldier back to a civilian. I think that's resilient.”

(Chorus) x2

...

This song is about two men, Robert E. Lee and Kenny Harrison, about how they are connected and resilient. Robert E. Lee and Kenny Harrison are both connected to the Army. Robert E. Lee was a general in the civil war, and Kenny Harrison was a soldier in the Army Reserve. The song basically says what they were fighting for, what wars they were in and how they were resilient, like coming back home pretending nothing had happened, and how they are connected, both being in war zones. In any case they have both seen prisoners and destruction. They both had faced challenges and both were willing to come back home safe and sound.

Personal Connection

My piece of artwork is personally connected to me because (I am doing the music/spoken word piece) the song talks about two people, Robert E. Lee and Kenneth (Kenny) Harrison, and Kenny is my brother, so it is personally connected like that. Robert E. Lee and Kenny Harrison are connected because they both are both in the army and they both came back to tell a story. My artwork is meaningful and significant to me because I think it has deep meaning and in my opinion, it's pretty good. I think people should take time to listen to this piece because a lot of people just listen to it and say it's good or bad. I want them to listen closely and look for a connection and meaning and give some real feedback, not saying it's good or bad, that's too vague for me.

Studio Time

During studio time we did a bit of painting on our box and we also tried to change our blog template (not successful.) I think that we do our share pretty evenly although there are a lot of arguments. We usually find a solution. I plan on working more effectively by helping Saul out a bit and try not to worry too much about the design. I don't really have anything to report to Saul.

Quotes

"Going to someplace and coming back to lead a normal life, going through a lot of changes from a soldier back to a civilian. I think that's resilient," says Kenny Harrison.

This quote sort of connects to the time when he went to Afghanistan in '03 and Iraq in '04, when he was a soldier in the Army Reserve, and soon after he was done, he went back to his Tennessee life. He said that it was a change, while his wife, Gretta, thinks that he's pretty flexible and resilient the way he goes back and forth from a soldier to a civilian.
